David Schnell is a Managing Director of Iconica Partners and a Managing Director of Prospect Venture Partners, a $1B venture capital firm focused on biomedical innovation.
Since 1992, David has helped numerous companies achieve exceptional outcomes by providing strategic leadership and guidance as a founder, active investor, board member, advisor and executive. David has built a strong track record working closely with talented entrepreneurs and teams to build and grow innovative enterprises. His successes include many start-up stage companies that achieved impressive business growth and success through IPOs, mergers, and acquisitions including several multi-billion dollar enterprises.
David brings a passion for sports and media and a wealth of knowledge and experience building and scaling emerging companies from an entrepreneur's perspective. During the past 25 years, he has served on more than 25 private and public company Boards and has invested in over 60 venture-backed companies with his partners across a variety of industries. David is also a Principal Partner (minority owner) in MLB's San Francisco Giants since 2005, an investor in the Los Angeles Football Club, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team, and in Oklahoma City's AAA Minor League baseball team.
Previously, David was a Partner at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB). In addition to his investment and Board responsibilities during this period, David co-founded and served as CEO of Healtheon Corporation, a pioneering health care information technology and media company that later went public and merged with WebMD in a $6 billion transaction.
David received an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and a B.S and M.A from Stanford University. He is also the author of the award-winning children's book, "The Night Before Baseball at the Park by the Bay", published in partnership with MLB's San Francisco Giants.
